How Christ Builds

“…and on this rock I will build my church…”

Matthew 16:18

As a church, we will begin this new year by considering how Jesus Christ builds!  Often we as Christians – both as individuals and as congregations, wrongly assume that it is our job to accomplish certain kingdom results in our lives or shared communities.  Two approaches to understanding what the Word of God teaches on this important subject will be pursued.

First, the book of Ephesians will be read and considered verse by verse.  This letter from the Apostle Paul to the church in Ephesus contains what are arguably the New Testament’s clearest statements concerning how the church is grown and built up (Ephesians 4:1-16) – and how we as individuals grow and are “built up” in the Christian life (Ephesians 4:17-5:20).  Understanding the entire book rather than merely looking at those select passages will help us be certain to hear what the Lord has for us in context.

Secondly, we will have three mini-series breaks on topical themes at appropriate places in our Ephesian experience.  The subjects of spiritual gifts, spiritual work, and spiritual conflict will require several messages each to help us as a church family best understand and apply what the scriptures teach us.

It is my hope and prayer that this season of ministry will be a blessing to you – that you might be built up!  And that the same might be true of us as a church as well.

Come and grow with us,

Pastor Bob Bjerkaas
